week 3 - RSS Feeds and Twitter

A few weeks back, I subscribed to Twitter @celinestm. In addition to SOLS, I decided to follow a few friends, the Ottawa Public Library, CBC news, Rick Mercer, LANCR, and Ottawa Events to start. Since then, my list has only grown. I like twitter, but as I have a pay as you go cell phone, I am not currently using the Twitter app. I can see how some keep current, seemingly carrying twitter in their back pocket.

I was already subscribed to Google Reader, though had not checked my feeds in a while. According to a slashdot.org post, Google Reader will be put to sleep soon. That's unfortunate. Any recommendations for alternatives??? I could see myself continuing to use Google Reader because I don't always like receiving more stuff in my Outlook.

I think RSS and Twitter can be useful for libraries:
1. to share external information and resources
2. to stay current
3. to promote the library, as well as it's programs and events, reaching the public through another means
5. to let the community extend our promotion by retweeting, or staying current on our activities
